When selling or renting residential property, most housing providers will engage in a process known as tenant screening. During this process, potential occupants are meant to be assessed based on their ability to uphold an agreement to lease or buy the property. In some cases, however, providers may go outside their boundaries by discriminating against potential tenants, which is not only illegal but can also bring along substantial ramifications. Among many others, disallowing a tenant based on their age is one reason that constitutes discrimination. In itself, there is no valid reason why age would affect a person's ability to purchase a home. Therefore, regardless of age, buyers or renters have a right to receive housing. However, a provider can have reason to refuse rental if the person is without source of income or other relevant requirement.
