Many of today's most successful technology companies have young workforces. For example, Google, a prominent internet search engine, employs a workforce consisting of many young workers. In 2004, only 2% of Google's employees were over the age of 40. A former employee of Google, Brian Reid, was 54 when he was fired from the company. Reid sued the company citing age discrimination in workplace setting. He claimed that while employed at Google he was frequently called names, such as ﾑold man', leading him to believe that he was fired because of his age. Google contends that the program in which Reid worked was discontinued.
