Civil Rights Cases

Civil rights law and legislation has been largely based upon a series of civil rights cases, which have taken place throughout American history. Each court decision, made by the Supreme Court of the United States created new regulations and requirements for black and white American citizens. The majority of these cases took place during the time of the black civil rights movement- the 1950s and 60s. The end goal of this campaign was to end racial segregation. Landmark cases, such as Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, helped to shape the way that African American individuals were treated in the United States.
