Civil Rights Leaders

Most Americans, when they hear the term "civil rights leaders" generally think of such African American powerhouses as Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. These men (and women) worked during the black civil rights movement to bring about change for their people and to end the suffering caused by racial segregation. These individuals would often make speeches and lead parades, promoting passive resistance. This idea was pioneered by Gandhi, an Indian civil rights leader, who rebelled against British Imperialists. He believed that more results could be achieved with hunger strikes and patience than with violence.
