Disability Discrimination Act

The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) is a bit of legislation, much like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The difference is that the DDA is enforced in the United Kingdom, while the ADA exists in the United States. The DDA was created in 1995 to prevent discrimination in the areas of education, employment, access to goods, facilities and services, buying or renting land or property and the functions of public bodies, such as the issuance of licenses.

Fast Facts

  • The UK's DDA has many parallels to the ADA in the United States.
  • The DDA was extended and revised in 2005 and again in 2007.
