Disability Discrimination Education

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1975 states that all disabled children have the right to a public education. This law obligates public schools to provide a cost free and suitable education for any child with a disability. Since the enactment of the IDEA, disability discrimination education has increased and many educational programs designed for disabled children have been developed. One such program, the Individualized Education Program works to assess the child's current educational level and set appropriate goals for the child, family, and education system to work towards. Another program, Early Intervening Services, grants children, birth to two years of age, special services to aid in their healthy development.
