Discrimination Against Muslim

Discrimination against Muslim people refers to actions taken against a person on the basis of their Muslim religion, or a perception of their Muslim religion. Often times, Muslims and those who appear to be Muslims may become victim to unfair treatment because of negative feelings that some people associate with their religion. However, discrimination against Muslims is illegal in the United States, in accordance with a range of laws. According to the constitution, all citizens are at liberty to choose and exercise their own religion. Federal legislation regarding discrimination - the Fair Housing Act, The Civil Rights Act - also states that citizens are to be granted with equal opportunity regardless of their religion. Yet another form of religious discrimination laws can be seen at a local level, where states or cities may establish further protection from religious discrimination. For Muslims, unlawful religious religious discrimination can appear in severe cases, such as refusing housing based on religion, or even much less severe ones, like disallowing an employee from wearing religious garments. Regardless of severity, almost any form of discrimination against Muslim people is illegal, and violations can be filed in court, often yielding damages from the guilty party.
