Discrimination At Work

The working woman often faces discrimination at work. This can take the form of a pay disparity between male and female compensation, pregnancy discrimination, or sexual harassment. It is not uncommon for a woman to receive less compensation than a man in a similar position, although the Equal Pay Act of 1963 prohibits this form discrimination. Pregnancy discrimination is prohibited under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978. This Act requires employers to give pregnant women special accommodations and prohibits employment discrimination based on pregnancy. Sexual harassment in the workplace is prohibited by the 1964 Civil Rights Act as a form of sex discrimination.
