Discrimination The Workplace

Discrimination in the workplace, or discrimination the workplace, frequently occurs among the Filipino population of the United States. An examination of the history of Filipinos living in the United States reveals the roots of the discrimination. In the 1920s, the Filipinos were deemed a colonized people, but were not given US citizenship. The Filipinos quickly developed a reputation for taking low paying jobs, which caused some to worry that the Filipinos were taking the jobs of the white majority. Modern day Filipinos often fill low paying positions and endure unpleasant working conditions. According to a study done by the University of Washington School of Nursing, unpleasant working conditions coupled with racial discrimination is positively correlated with poor health among Filipinos working within the United States.
