Female Discrimination

In times past, females have often times been shorthanded in terms of their legal rights. However, laws are now in place to ensure that females receive the same opportunities as their male counterparts. These laws forbid female discrimination - the unfair treatment of a woman based on her sex - throughout the United States. The most common types of female discrimination can be seen in employment, education. In employment, the person hiring may refuse to hire or sexually harass an employee because of her sex. Educational female discrimination, which is governed under Title IX, may occur if a female is not provided with the same educational opportunities as males. At a public high school, for example, the athletic department must provide an equal amount of male teams as female teams, and must allow females to participate in a male sport if there is not female version. Under a federal legislation known as the Civil Rights Act, any such occurrence of female discrimination is unlawful and may bear legal consequences.
