Pregnancy discrimination occurs when an pregnant woman is not hired, is fired or is in some other way discriminated against solely because she is pregnant or because she has the intention of becoming pregnant. For example an employment may not hire a woman that has a visible pregnancy although she is qualified for the position or is likely to become pregnant. Another form of pregnancy discrimination occurs when a woman is fired after coming back from maternity leave. In all of these situations, the discrimination is against the law and therefore is punishable under law.
