Rent discrimination is a form of discrimination that involves a landlord and tenant. In this type of discrimination, the landlord makes discriminatory actions against the tenants because of their race, religion, sex, religion, or disability. In the United States, rent discrimination is illegal according to the civil rights act. Under these laws, landlords who are renting or leasing cannot perform any actions that may deny a person of their right to housing - refusing of rent, refusing to negotiate agreement, denying proper accommodations, harassment, or canceling the agreement because of discrimination. If a landlord is found to discriminate during the rent process, they may be legally punished with monetary damages. However, there are time limits for how long the tenant has to file for discrimination.
