Sex Discrimination Cases

Appearing in cases on a constant basis, sex discrimination is most definitely not a thing of the past. Indeed, attitudes regarding sex discrimination may have changed, but it is still a common legal issue in court. The court cases, which tend to occur consistently, are sometimes ruled by the legal precedent set in earlier US Supreme Court sex discrimination cases.

In Cleveland Bd. Of Ed. V. LaFleur, the supreme court found that schools should allow for female teachers to be given leave during pregnancy. Another case, Johnson v. Transportation, confirmed that it was illegal for an employer to deny a promotion based on the sex of an employee. In 1998, another case found an employer to be liable on account of sexual discrimination caused by a supervisor, depending on the severity and reasonableness of the circumstances.
