The Civil Rights Movement

The Civil Rights Movement took place in countries all across the world between the years of 1950 and 1980, but the most known movement took place in the United States over two different times. The first period was from 1896-1954 and the second period took place from 1955-1968. The majority of the events occurred in the southern part of the United States, and they were referred to as the Second Reconstruction Era. A large number of movement events became violent, leading to the arrest and injury of thousands of protestors. Groups such as the Black Panther Party, the Young Lords, the Weathermen, and the Brown Berets were groups that were particularly violent during movement events. Movements that took place during the Civil Rights Movement were Black Power, Chicano Movement, and American Indian Movement. W.E.B. Du Bois, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Rosa Parks were four of the most popular African Americans in the United States to take part in the African American Civil Rights Movement.
