Gender discrimination - especially towards women - has been occurring for years and will unfortunately still occur. Examples of top ivy league schools electing women as president include the following:

  • 23% of university and college presidents now are women
  • This is an increase from the 9.5% it used to be years ago
  • Four out of eight top ivy league schools have female presidents
  • Aside from Harvard, some top ivy league schools with female presidents include Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, and Brown.

For the past 371 years, Harvard university has been ran by men only. This changed when last year's president Lawrence Summers resigned. Harvard decided it was time to join the other universities and top ivy league schools that have already begun to look past gender. More schools, colleges, universities and top ivy league schools across the country have also elected women as their president.

The previous problems that were caused by past Harvard president just show that being a man does not necessarily make one more qualified for a position over a woman. The woman who will become president at Harvard university is 59 year old Dr. Drew Gilpin Faust. She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr and was an educational executive at Penn and Radcliffe.
